CORROSION TESTS
Metal samples with or without coatings are subjected to corrosion tests by physically simulating highly corrosive environments in order to obtain information on ‘corrosion resistance’. The tests highlight the differences that different materials, processes, treatments and coatings have on the development of corrosion on the surface of the tested materials.
The specifications and requirements for these tests are nowadays increasingly present in the specifications of the major players in sectors such as automotive, shipbuilding, small/medium/heavy carpentry, white goods, furniture and household appliances, components and precision mechanics, valves, pump bodies, etc.
All activities are standardised. It is also possible to prepare ad hoc cycles according to the customer’s specifications.
There are several chambers within the Group’s laboratories available for this type of testing.
- Neutral Salt Spray (NSS) test
- Salt Acetic Fog Testing (AASS)
- Cupro-Saline Fog Testing (CASS)
- Humidistatic test (EN ISO 6270, DIN 50017)
- Kesternich test (EN ISO 6988, DIN 50018)
- SWAAT Test (ASTM G85 Method A3)
- Salt spray modified with sulphur dioxide (ASTM G85 Method A4)
- Squaring Trial
Corrosion
Corrosion resistance is also assessed by subjecting materials to direct contact with chemical agents under controlled and standardised conditions of temperature, humidity and exposure. Depending on the material and the corrosive phenomenon to be investigated, several standards can be applied, each specific to a particular activity; alternatively, an ad hoc cycle can be prepared at the specific request of the client.
